Junior Results Summary Rd 7/8
28 Nov 2022 by Brendan Denning
More highlights from our talented juniors on the weekend just gone!
U15A Captain Japjot (JJ) Singh made an unbeaten 52 (off 51 balls) as the opener that helped set up their first win of the season – a match that came down to a caught & bowled by Ollie Denning on the second last ball of the match – with Point Cook falling 2 runs short!
U13A Saturday’s Rohan Sood made a similarly blistering start as an opener, compiling a rapid and classy 57 off only 32 balls. The team made a massive 202 from 30 overs in their win over Williams Landing.
On Sunday afternoon we had three more juniors make their senior cricket debut, being Ollie Denning, Mick McMahon and Sam Thaus (all from U15A). Playing on Yarraville Oval (how lucky?) the boys performed very well. Special mentions to Sam Thaus and Ollie Denning who each took 2 wickets – Ollie’s 2nd was his 50th wicket for the club (his wk brother Angus took the catch making the milestone a family affair). Mick batted at 5 – very brave – but was trapped LBW on a low bouncing deck. It was just as great to see so many of their mates from U13 and U15 at the ground showing their support – and inspiring them to have a go as soon as an opportunity presents.
U11 Cubs
Yarraville Navy 11/151 def Yarraville White 6/82
Navy:Will S 23 and 1/1 Harry M 30 Jayden G 27 Caleb B 2/7 Hamish F 2/15
White: Louie L 8 and 5/10 Nash E 6 Liam O 1/17 Alex J 2/31
A competitive game between the two Yarraville teams. The Navy team, although not taking as many wickets bowled with accuracy and fielded very well. Team White were very good at defending their wicket with excellent technique.
Team White were able to take regular wickets and fielded well with some run outs. But team Navy were more aggressive and scored several 4s and a few 6s which was the difference.
U11A- (Brett Murphy & Greg Croaker) Yarraville Derby
Navy 6/146 def White 15/83
Navy: Rory M 20; Teddy T 18; Jasper B 9 Tom J 2/4; Noah 2/9
White:Thom T 12no, Hugh M 9, Atticus 8 James K 2/12
Great game of junior cricket with nice shot making; one handed catches & direct hit run outs all on display.
Both teams played well & were pretty even with runs & bowling accuracy. Probably just a second year of experience that tipped things Navy’s way with their running between wickets.
Most importantly game was played in good spirit with plenty of encouragement across training mates.
U13A Fri (Shane Brown)
Yarraville 5/151 (29 overs) def Barkly St Uniting 98 (28.4 overs)
Elliot Brown 2/2 Mack Lewicki 2/11
Lucas Spottiswood 40 (27) Harry Denning 22* (32) Elliot Brown 19* (30)
Solid win. Slow start with the ball, taking 13 overs to get a wicket, but a middle order collapse from 1/56 to 5/62 helped swing momentum. Great to see Mack get a couple of wickets, while Elliot took 2/2 from four really good overs.
Chasing 99 from 30 overs to win, all batters applied themselves well and the target was always in reach. Lucas (and Kade) put the accelerator down once we’d passed the target, and Lucas was on track for another rapid half century before hitting a catch near the end.
U13A Sat (Dave Rowlands)
Yarraville 5-202 def Williams Landing 39
Rohan S 57* Kade S 29 Harry D 28* Elliot B 25*
Archie H 3/1 Rohan S 2/2
Certainly our most complete performance with the ball and in the field. Then a destructive opening partnership set us up for a big score. Every player contributed whether it be with runs, wickets or catches and our opposition continued to try hard and keep their spirits up despite the outcome.
Under 15A (Faraaz Sathar)
Yarraville 6-109 off 21 def Point Cook 107 off 21,
Japjot (JJ) 52* & Ollie 14. Lawrence 3/6, Kanish 2/15 & Raj 2/1.
Hard fought game again this time we came away with the win! JJ led the way with a solid 50 and Lawrence starred with the ball and almost taking a hat-trick. Highlight of the game was Ollie hitting his first 4 and celebrating like he scored a half century 😂. Boys extremely chuffed!
U15B (Russell Sheather)
Gellibrand 10/123 def Yarraville 7/79.
Yarraville batted first with a solid overall batting performance. Facing a good bowling attack we maintained a steadfast approach valuing our wickets.
Aedan 22 Noah 16 Merrick 14*
Bowling second we started steadily but were punished for our loose balls to see our score overrun with only 3 wickets down. This week saw some great resilience and the team lifted with the 4th wicket. The team them secured to next 6 wickets for 20 runs to bowl Gellibrand out.
A well fought out effort with Aedan picking up 3 wickets and Will taking four catches.
U17A (Mark Thomas)
Yarraville 3-147 def Sunshine Heights all out for 80.
Hugo 52*, Harry 47. Jett, Artie and Tom 2 each.
A pretty comprehensive win against a side who were 2nd on the ladder.
Great batting effort and boys were sharp in the field. A couple of half chances taken. Running between the wickets was also a highlight.
